The Jewish resistance in Budapest (Kidma)

On 27th November 2014, we commemorated the Hungarian Jewish resistance at a conference organized by Kidma. The speakers of the conference presented the self-rescue activities of Hungarian Jews during World War II. Unfortunately, only a few people know there were Hungarian Jews who set theirs face against Hungarian and German Nazis. They mobilized and were in contact with foreign diplomats and Hungarian antifascists to save people’s life. Their activities were not as visibility as Warsaw Ghetto Rising, but they tried to do everything within their power and buy some time until the liberation.

The Jakab Gláser Memorial Foundation was represented by Tamás Adler and Szilvia Lelkes who spoke about the resistance options of Jews in Józsefváros during World War II. The audience got acquainted with the stories of the survival with fake foreign documents (Schutzpass and Schutzbrief), young Jews in Nazi-dressed and Jewsish resistance in Népszínház street.
